Human Body

In our study of the human body, we will look at how our bodies are organized from cells, to tissues, to organs, to organ systems that all work together to support life.

The systems we will study are:

Digestive System

Skeletal System

Muscle System

Respiratory System

On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 19 we will have a Medical Round Robin. This will be a series of workshops that all sixth grade students will attend. Our presenters are medical professionals in the community who will come to our classrooms to share their specialized knowledge. Topics are wide-ranging. They include: germs, lungs, anesthesia, kidneys, respiratory therapy, heart, organ-transplants and prosthetics. Each classroom will attend four workshops.

Words to know for the Human Body Unit
Cell  smallest unit of living thing
Nucleus  the part of the cell that controls all its functions (growth, repair, reproduction) "the brain of the cell"
Chromosomes  the genetic material, found in the nucleus, that determines your characteristics, "a blueprint for you"

Cytoplasm  the jelly-like substance inside the cell that supports the organelles.
Diffusion  the movement of material from a crowded area to a less crowded area (check out our photos of our diffusion experiments)
