Here are the steps for subtracting mixed
numbers when they don't have common denominators. |
- Find a common denominator.
- Create equivalent fractions with the common denominator.
- Regroup if necessary by creating an improper fraction.
- Subtract the whole numbers.
- Subtract the fractions.
- Simplify your answer by putting it into lowest terms. (which
means you may have to turn an improper fraction into a mixed
number and add it to your whole number answer.)
