Oscar M. Froding, 88

CHEBEAGUE ISLAND - Oscar M. Froding, 88, of Bennett's Cove Road, died
Friday at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Portland, a son of Oscar G. A. and Ella Cunderson Froding, and
attended Portland schools.

Mr. Froding worked for Loring, Short and Harmon for 10 years and he also worked for
Westbrook Farmers Union and the South Portland Shipyard during World War II.

For most of his life, he was a self-employed finished carpenter, retiring in 1976.

Mr. Froding was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a deacon, and
he was also a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Portland. He served on the
Merger Committee and the Building Committee.

He was past chancellor commander of Ivanhoe Lodge of Knights of Pythias.

His wife, Laura Ross Froding, died in 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Rodney C. (Jane L.) Harrington of Chebeague Island;
one son, Alan R. of Hollis; one sister, Esther Jensen of Gorham; five grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.

There will be no visiting hours. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at
St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, 515 Woodford St., Portland, with the Rev. Sharon
Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are by Jones,
Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
