Hermine and Nelson were an adoring couple who enjoyed 53 loving years of marriage until his death in 1988. They settled in Belmont, Mass., where they raised three sons, George Wiliam Stevens, Allen Brooks Stevens, and Nelson David Stevens. They also shared their home with Hermine's mother, Carmen R. Larrabee.

Hermine's life was devoted to her family and her church. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and later upon moving to Cumberland, the Tuttle Road United Methodist Church. Every summer, while she was raising her family, she brought everyone to Chebeague where the summer was filled with visits from her sisters, her niece, Betty, as well as Nelson's brothers, sisters, and their families.

Hermine has been living at Island Commons on Chebeague Island for the last three a half years, where she enjoyed the loving care and attention of the staff and volunteers of this extraordinary non-profit facility for the aging. Prior to Island Commons, Hermine lived with her son, Nelson David and his family in Yarmouth.
