Ray Newcomb

CUMBERLAND — Raymond E. Newcomb, 85, a lifelong resident of Chebeague Island
died Dec. 7, 2000, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born on Chebeague Island, a son of Oliver and Martha B. Ross Newcomb, and
attended Chebeague Island schools.

He worked for the Cumberland Public Works Department.

Throughout the years, he also worked occasionally at the Chebeague Island Cemetery.

He was a gardener, and photographs of his garden were included on an Internet site on the
island. He also enjoyed watching birds.

Mr. Newcomb was a member of Chebeague Island United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sisters, Ethel Lanouette of St. Petersburg, Fla., Barbara Wirzburger of
Hollis and Dorothy Young of Westbrook.

Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hay and Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress
St., Portland.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Chebeague Island United Methodist
Church.

Burial will follow in Chebeague Island Cemetery.
