Noreen Britton Minkler, 73

HOLYOKE, Mass. - Noreen Britton Minkler, 73, of Holyoke, Mass., died on Jan. 25, 2018.

Born in Holyoke, Noreen was a 30-year resident of Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth. She also resided in West Springfield and Longmeadow, Mass.

Noreen was a graduate of Cathedral High School, and the College of Our Lady of the Elms with a B.A. in education. She also attended American International College and Westfield State College and taught in the Holyoke, Mass., and Scarborough, Maine, school systems. She was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Portland.

She leaves two sons, Marc (Lisa), of Chebeague Island, and Greg (Amy), of Richmond, Virginia. She also leaves three adored granddaughters, Emily, of Maine; and Isabella and Annalise, of Virginia; her mother, Gertrude Britton, of Holyoke; her sisters, Ann Kotfila, of Westmoreland, N.H.; Barbara Moran, of Springfield; and Elizabeth Britton, of West Springfield; brothers, James (Donna), of Easthampton; Christopher (Joan), of Southampton; and Timothy (Mary), of Holyoke; and sister-in-law, Marge, of Southampton.

Noreen was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1986; her father, James; and a brother, Jonathan.

She also leaves many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and friends.

Noreen especially thanks her sister, Barbara; her friends from Maine, her high school and college friends, those she taught with, those from St. Joseph's residence, and the staff at Mont Marie, especially her "bestie," Donyel, who did so much for her.

Per her wishes, there are no calling hours. A funeral liturgy will be held at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough, of which she was on the building committee, the first parish council, and a head of the worship and spirituality committee. The liturgy will be held Feb. 9, 2018, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable contributions in Noreen's memory be made to the Brain Support Network, a 501(c)(3) organization studying neurological diseases, including multiple system atrophy.
