Lavinia Ethel Burns, 94

SCARBOROUGH -- Lavinia Ethel Burns, 94, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the home of her son in West Baldwin.

Mrs. Burns was born in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Eli and Marie Ethel Hatfield Ross and attended school on Chebeague Island.

In May of 1933, she married Norris L. Burns who died in 1978. She was a lifelong homemaker, foster mother and grandmother, and also helped as an aide at the Crooked River School in Naples.

After her retirement, she moved to Scarborough to live with her daughter, Faith.

Mrs. Burns was a member and former treasurer of the Christian Alliance Church in Casco. She was very active in Bible Study and brought many in her family to know God. One of her greatest joys was helping her family be unified. For the past several months, she resided with her son, Dennis (her Golden Boy).

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Archie Ross. Surviving are her children, Marie Farris of Portland, Joan Estes and her husband Myron of Portland, Ann Dennison of Old Orchard Beach, Faith Gluse and husband James of Scarborough, Norris Burns Jr. of Texas, and Dennis Burns and his wife Rennie of West Baldwin; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family wished to extend a special thank you to: Karen, Liz, Bonnie and Theresa, of Beacon Hospice for the kind and compassionate care shown to our mother during her illness.

There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at the Edes Falls Cemetery, Naples. The Rev. Jim Ledoux will officiate. Arrangements by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham. Online condolences may be made to www.dolbyfuneralchaples.com.
