Peter J. Kimball, Sr., 77

peterSOUTH PORTLAND - It is with great sorrow that we write of the passing of our beloved father, Peter J. Kimball, Sr., on Dec. 6, 2017, in Portland. "Dad", or "Papa Kimball," as he was known to his adoring grandchildren, was born on Jan. 19, 1940, in Bar Harbor, where he spent all those magical summers in his youth. Pete and his loving wife, Ruth Elaine Kimball, (ne O'Donnell), were married in Portland, on May 7, 1960, one month prior to him leaving for military service in the Army.

Professionally, dad was a master oil burner technician and an HVAC technician. In this field he ran his own business in the Portland area for decades. Both his and our mother's work ethic were one of the most valuable pieces of learning that they passed on to us kids. They worked extremely hard and we really don't remember them ever taking a day off other than occasional vacations. Our father was also in the Coast Guard Reserves for 22 years and retired from the military with an accumulation of more than 25 years of military service. Dad was proud of his service, and we are grateful to him for it.

Just a few weeks prior to his passing, he recounted beautiful stories of some of his Coast Guard adventures where he worked as an engineer on many different sized vessels. Later in years, dad also was the primary caregiver to his loving wife Ruth, until her death in September 2014. His and our mother's caring nature was a joy to observe. Though it is so difficult to think that we are now without both of our beloved parents, it is comforting to feel that they are now both reunited.

Dad is survived by daughters, Christine Kimball and Gardi Smith, son, Jeff Kimball; grandsons, Zakry Osborne and Cassidy Jeffers; great-grandson, Jordan Osborne; as well as, many loving relatives.
