John Wm. W. Maxon, 81

CHEBEAGUE ISLAND - John Wm. W. Maxon, 81, of 71 Littlefield Road Chebeague Island, Maine, passed away on September 29, 2009 at Falmouth by the Sea, Falmouth Maine, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Brookline Mass on October 26, 1927 and was a devoted husband to Joan Esau Maxon for 33 years.

He is also survived by his nine children: John Wm. W. Maxon Jr. and his wife Virginia, Leslie Maxon, Matthew Maxon and his wife Margery, Andrew Maxon and his wife Svetlana, Heather Maxon, Peter Maxon and his wife Patricia, Bradford Lamprey and his wife Sharon, Cheryl Hillicoss and her husband Darren, and Ruth Lamprey and her wife Robin. He is survived by two sisters, Elaine Burnham and Gladys Lawton. He was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Emily Wearin Maxon and his sisters Emily L. Maxon, Thelma L. Ahern, Geraldine E. Maxon, and brothers Matthew Maxon, Charles L. Maxon, Arthur Maxon, and Robert Maxon. He was grandfather to Private Todd Maxon, Steven, Andrew, Savannah and Craig Lamprey, Benjamin Hillicoss, Ian, Janiene, Hamza, and Medhi Maxon, and Aidan and Ethan Downey-Lamprey. He was the uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Brookline High School, and then received an AA in Fire Science from Boston University and a BS from Boston State College. He was a World War II Veteran, and retired as a Lieutenant from the Brookline Fire Department. He was Junior Warden of All Saints Church in Brookline, Mass. He was twice Past Master of Beth-Horon Lodge, Brookline. He and his wife traveled for two years and settled in Penn Valley California. He was a Lay Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Grass Valley. He was representative to the Emergency Assistance. Coalition and Grass Valley Food Ministry. He retired to Chebeague Island, Maine in 1996 where he acted and sang in the Island Theater and with the Whalers and was active in the Chebeague Island Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held at the Chebeague United Methodist Church, Chebeague Island Maine at 11 am on Saturday October 10, 2009 with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Ministry of the Chebeague United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Southern Maine.
