Marshall R. Bowen

marshallCHEBEAGUE ISLAND – Marshall R. Bowen, 79, longtime resident of Chebeague Island. passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2022 at Mercy Hospital following a long illness.

Marshall was born in Portland on Nov. 7, 1943, the son of the late Clyde L. and Geneve C. (Bennett) Bowen. He graduated from Greely High School in the class 1962.

Having grown up on Chebeague Island, Marshall continued to call that home for most of his life, until his health forced him to move to Portland. Following high school he worked for several years at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home in Portland and at his father’s garage, Bowen’s Garage, on the island. Marshall drove school bus for the Town of Cumberland for more than 20 years. Marshall also played the organ at the Chebeague Island marshallMethodist Church on the island for many years. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs.

Marshall is survived by his brother, Meredith and his wife Marlene Bowen of Gray; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022 at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. Burial will be in the Spring on Chebeague Island.
