PORTLAND - Alice K. Gray, 79, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at her residence. She was born in Snydersburg, Md., July 18, 1922, a daughter of Charles A. and Marjorie Simmons Kenny, graduating from Hampstead High School in Maryland. She married William R. Gray in Cambridge, Mass., on Jan. 15, 1946. Mr. Gray died Oct. 15, 1975.
As a resident of Portland for 26 years, Alice was known for her bountiful gardens, numerous quilts, expert saving, and her knitting ability. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, giving her help in any way with patience and understanding. In recent times, she enjoyed reading, knitting for the church fair, and watching her grandchildren grow. She was a member of Clark Memorial United Methodist Church and the Makaria Circle.
She is survived by two sons, Alan W. Gray of Portland, and David R. Gray and his wife, Laurel of Durham; three daughters, Gloria J. Brown and her husband, Robert of Chebeague Island, Janet G. Gowen and her husband, Stephen of Portland, and Carol L. Gray of Carrabassett Valley; three sisters, Marjorie Alder of Baltimore, Md., Mildred G. Green and her husband, James of Pheonix, Md., and Ruth H. Grumbine of Floyd. Va.; three brothers, Charles Kenny of Baltimore. Md., George Kenny of Midland, Mich., and Richard Kenny of Finksburg, Md.; three sister-in-laws, Alice G. Hiltz of Woburn, Mass., Mary T. Gray of Medford, Mass., and Marion C. Kenny of Sykesville, Md.; six grandchildren, Christopher W. Brown and his wife, Erica of Windham, Zackery M. Oliver and Eric B. Oliver, both of Portland, Angela R. Gray and Melissa S. Gray, both of Yarmouth, and Alanna J. Gowen of Portland.
There will be no visiting hours. A funeral
will be held Monday, March 18, at 10 a.m. from Clark Memorial
United Methodist Church, 15 Pleasant Ave., Portland. Burial will
be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Mass. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to Clark Memorial United Methodist Church,
or to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by Jones,
