TOPSHAM - Bertha K. Graves, 80, formerly
of West Hartford, Conn., and
Chebeague Island, died Wednesday at
The Highlands.
She was born in Hartford, Conn.,
a daughter of Walter O. R. and Bertha Yungk
Korder, and was a 1936 graduate of William
H. Hall High School in West
Hartford, Conn. She later attended the
Hartford College of Insurance and Law.
During World War II, she served as
a nurse's aide in Hartford and in Miami, Fla.
She also volunteered at a military hospital
in Coral Gables, Fla.
After the war, she was an insurance
underwriter for The Hartford, Aetna
Insurance and retired from The Travelers.
On July 8, 1967, she married Charles
Graves in Hartford. They made their home
in West Hartford, but enjoyed spending
summer vacations at their cottage on
Chebeague Island, her family said. They
moved to The Highlands in August
1998.
Surviving are her husband of Topsham;
a sister, Thea Korder Climo of Santa
Barbara, Calif.; a brother, Walter O.R.
Korder of West Hartford, Conn.; and
three nieces and two nephews.
There are no visiting hours. A funeral
will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lindquist
Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
The Rev. Robert Leon will
officiate. Burial will be in the spring
in Chebeague Island Cemetery.
