CUMBERLAND - Lewis Carroll Ross, 81, of Chebeague Island
died July 14, 2000, at
Maine Medical Center.
He was born on Chebeague Island, a son of Merle and Ethyl
Hamilton Ross. He graduated
from Chebeague Island High School and attended Gorham State Teachers
College.
He served as a technical sergeant for the Fifth Air Force
in the South Pacific during World
War II. After the war he returned home and worked as a carpenter.
He was later
self-employed as a contractor and builder until his retirement.
He was involved in many of the island organizations, including
Chebeague Fire and Rescue,
Chebeague United Methodist Church, Chebeague Island Council,
Chebeague Transportation
Co., the Recompense Foundation and the Chebeague Golf Club.
He played golf and was a Red Sox fan.
A son, Stephen L., died previously. Surviving is his wife
of 54 years, Geraldine Johnson
Ross; a daughter, Beth Ross Williams of Chebeague Island; a son,
Douglas E. of
Chebeague; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be
held on at 1 p.m. Wednesday at
Chebeague Island United Methodist Church, North Road, Chebeague
Island. Burial will
follow in Chebeague Island Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lindquist
Funeral Home,
Yarmouth.
