Descendants of John and Dorcas Hamilton Ross to Gather on Chebeague Island ME

In 1756 Ambrose Hamilton entered into an agreement with Zachariah Chandler to buy land on the West End of Chebeague Island. Hamilton went on to marry and he and his wife, Deborah settled on Chebeague and had 14 children 8 of whom had a total of 72 children!

Every summer Hamilton descendants travel to Chebeague wanting to learn more about their island roots.

Descendants of John and Dorcas Hamilton Ross will gather on Chebeague Island on Saturday, August 24th. Dorcas Hamilton Ross was one of Ambrose Hamilton’s 72 grandchildren. She and her husband had 10 children and at least 40 grandchildren.

The event will include an opportunity to share family information and photographs, to learn more about the extended family, to tour the Museum and Chebeague Cemetery, and more!

If you are a descendant of John and Dorcas or want to learn more about Chebeague genealogy we hope you will attend. Even if you can’t attend in person, we hope you will share your family history.

While the event focuses on one branch of the Hamilton family – all are welcome!

We are in the planning process and need to have an estimate of how many folks plan to attend. If you think you might attend please email: 1756ahamilton@gmail.com and we will get right back to you! We need an estimate by July 23rd and a final count by August 10.

If you wonder if you descend from John and Dorcas please contact Donna Miller Damon at the above email.

We hope to hear from you!
