Mushrooms love rain! If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

The Maine Mycological Association will lead a mushroom foray on the island Saturday, August 6, 2011, starting at noon. Volunteers from the club will be there to help identify what we find, and to separate the good, the bad and the poisonous.

We will gather at the Rec Center at noon, choose some trails to explore, and return after a couple of hours to sort out our finds. All ages are welcome.
Things you might want to bring: bug spray, sunscreen, hat, and clothing that inhibits ticks (light color, long sleeves, socks to pull over pant legs), a basket, paper bags to keep your finds separate, and a knife to get the whole mushroom if part of it is underground.

The Library has mushroom books on display, and there will be a talk at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, at the library about mushroom hunting in general.
