Chebeague Island School
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Introduce new learning. Review and reinforce learning previously
introduced by the classroom teacher or appropriate content specialist
- Prepare instructional materials and utilize a variety of
instructional approaches to meet the needs of individual students.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students,
staff, parents, community members and others.
- Attend all staff meeting and other meeting as requested by
the principal.
- Set up meetings as needed with classroom teachers.
- Work with colleagues to establish and maintain a positive
school climate.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to
learning for each student.
- Participate in professional growth activities in order to
have the knowledge required to perform the job successfully.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Maintain an updated substitute information folder to ensure
program continuity.
- Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline
in accordance with the school philosophy and established operating
procedures.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Accept a share of student supervisory duties as assigned.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities
as the building principal and / or supervisor may assign.
SPECIAL EDUCATION:
- Provide personal assistance services to students with physical
disabilities.
- Provide physical restraints using MANDT or CPI system.
- Meet regularly with the Supervising Teacher and /or Special
Education Director to communicate program progress and student
concerns.
- Implement and monitor behavior change plans.
- Assists in PET process as necessary.
- Liaison between classrooms and special education rooms.
LIBRARY/MEDIA:
- Supervises or assists with the supervision of the library
/media center.
- Prepares, process, and receives purchase orders.
- Trains and utilizes volunteers and student helpers to support
the needs of the library.
- Maintains records, inventories, and bibliographies.
- Locates and retrieves materials and equipment for users.
- Assists students in using media center resources.
- Shelves, files, duplicates materials.
- Repairs books and materials.
- Update the card catalog and shelf list catalog by typing
and filing new cards and withdrawing old cards.
- Shelves, inventories, and circulates periodicals.
- Performs circulation tasks such as charging, discharging,
reserving, booking, scheduling, processing interlibrary loans,
and delivery of materials.
- Supervises or assists with the supervision, of the use of
technology.
- Maintains proficiency in operating equipment.
- Assists in the preparation and minor repair of equipment.
- Performs non-instructional duties within the framework of
the working day, as assigned.
- Maintains a safe, relaxed clean, neat, and pleasant learning
environment for students.
- Assists with grant applications.
- Upon request and under the supervision of the principal or
library/media specialist the Ed Tech HI may:
- Select and order material.
- Catalog new materials.
- Evaluate and remove from the collection out-of date and damaged
materials.
- Meet with classes for book selection.
- Consult with teachers and staff to provide materials and
suggestions for supplementing.
Requirements:
2 years of post secondary education or a combination equivalent
of 60 hours of approved study in educational field. Experience
in the field of education desirable, but not mandatory. State
of Maine authorization as Educational Technician II.
