Job description:        Administrative Assistant

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:      

·      Performs and organizes a wide variety of secretarial and clerical duties for administrative staff, School Board members, teachers and support staff in an efficient manner.

·      Acts as a liaison for school administration, staff, students, parents, volunteers and community members.

·      Communicates with the public, employing discretion and independent judgment, directing individuals to the correct person or resource and efficiently resolving their concerns.

·      Communicates and explains rules and regulations to staff, students, volunteers, and community members.

·      Maintains communication with other agencies such as island organizations, mainland schools and transportation companies.

·      Acts as Volunteer Coordinator for the school.

·      Greets visitors and answers the telephone.

·      Coordinates travel system for students attending after school activities on the mainland. Acts as a liaison between parents, students and the agency providing the transportation to Cousins Island.

·      Independently composes a variety of materials, such as letters, memorandums, bulletins, newsletters, reports and statistical data from rough drafts or oral instructions.

·      Supports teaching staff with typing, duplication, and distribution of materials.

·      Helps maintain school web site.

·      Prepares requisitions of materials and work orders for maintenance of buildings, grounds, and school equipment.

·      Coordinates the processes of purchasing to include: processing of requisitions, payment, receipt, verification and distribution of materials.

·      Processes mail and routes it the appropriate individuals.

·      Processes vendor bills including payments, organization of receipts, and reports.

·      Processes payments to the school for school lunches, book orders, field trips, or other. Arranges for deposits to bank.

·      Tracks and compiles financial data and budget information for administrators and School Board.

·      Plans and organizes school meetings of administrators, staff, parents, School Board, and/or community members.

·      May attend meetings and conferences and act as recorder, preparing reports for actions taken and assignments made.

·      Maintains and coordinates multiple calendars to include: administrator (s), school facility use, academic calendar, and school events.

·      Assigns and maintains inventory of school keys.

·      Maintains student records, including academic, testing, and attendance records.

·       Orients and directs substitute teachers and specialists.

·      Administers first aid and medication in the absence of health clerk and notifies proper authorities in case of serious illness or accident.

·      Other duties as they arise.

Requirements:          

High School Diploma with three years of secretarial, clerical and/or administrative work. Proficient is use of computers with strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation skills.  Must maintain confidentiality of student records and Family Educational Right & Privacy Act (FERPA) requirements. Strong interpersonal skills required for myriad contacts with students, staff and community members. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities; strong organizational and decision-making skills required. Must be highly professional. Must like working with children.

Job description:        Educational Technician II

Classification:            Full-time

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:      

·      Introduces new learning one-on-one and in small groups. .

·      Review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the classroom teacher or appropriate content specialist or assist in drill or practice activities.

·      Performs non-instructional, non-evaluating functions.

·      Attends workshops and other staff development programs as directed.

·      Assists in the preparation of instructional materials appropriate for the student's needs as directed. This may include activities for students to work on at home.

·      Interviewing and providing discipline as required

·      Preparing program materials, running off papers, making games, laminating, etc.

·      Participates in inservicing and statewide program related activities as recommended

·      by supervisor.

·      Checks notebooks, corrects papers, supervises testing and make-up work as assigned

·      by the teacher.

·      Participates in PET process as required.

·      Performs other duties as assigned

COMPUTER LAB:

·      Instructs student on use of computers, printer's etc.

·      Loads software into computers.

·      Maintains accurate inventory of all equipment, software, and licenses, Etc.

·      Ensures all students are aware of district policies concerning computer usage.

·      Assist staff with computer related issues.

·      Works cooperatively with district technology supervisor.

SPECIAL EDUCATION:

·      Provides physical restraints using MANDT or CPI systems.

·      Meets regularly with supervising teacher or Special Education Director to communicate program progress and student needs.

·      Liaison between classrooms and Special Education rooms.

·      Assist physically challenged students with activities / needs.

·      Intervene physically when students present a danger to themselves or others.

IN - SCHOOL SUSPENSION:

·      Ensure all assigned students are present and maintain attendance data.

·      Ensure students have assignments from missed classes.

·      Maintain an atmosphere in the class that is conductive to study and assignment completion.

·      Report any rules violations to administrations.

Requirements:          

2 years of post secondary education or a combination equivalent of 60 hours of approved study in educational field. Experience in the field of education desirable, but not mandatory. State of Maine authorization as Educational Technician II.

·      Prepare instructional materials and utilize a variety of instructional approaches to meet the needs of individual students.

·      Establish and maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents, community members and others.

·      Attend all staff meeting and other meeting as requested by the principal.

·      Set up meetings as needed with classroom teachers.

·      Work with colleagues to establish and maintain a positive school climate.

·      Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning for each student.

·      Participate in professional growth activities in order to have the knowledge required to perform the job successfully.

·      Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

·      Maintain an updated substitute information folder to ensure program continuity.

·      Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline in accordance with the school philosophy and established operating procedures.

·      Maintain high standards of professionalism and confidentiality.

·      Accept a share of student supervisory duties as assigned.

·      Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the building principal and / or supervisor may assign.

SPECIAL EDUCATION:

At least 3 years post secondary education or a combination of 90 hours of approved study in an educational field.  Experience in working with children.  Experience in the field of education desirable, but not required.  State of Maine Educational Technician IH authorization.

Job description:        Island School Bus Driver/Facilities Worker

Classification:            Part-time during the academic year (late August - mid-June)

Reports to:                 Superintendent

Hours:                        Hourly TBA

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:      

BUS:        

·      Drive island resident school children to and from destinations (CIS, Stone Pier, home) on school days.

·      Transport island teachers and administrators to and from the school as needed.

·      Be available for field trips as needed.

·      Transport CIS students to and from library once per week.

·      Be available to transport groups such as visiting officials for special events.

·      Keep bus clean and fueled at all times.

·      Be sure that coverage is available if time off is needed.

·      Maintain a safe driving record, adhering to all speed limits and rules of the road.

·      Be aware of needed bus repairs and maintenance (including inspection) and schedule such needs with the Department of Public Works.

·      Coordinate with Department of Public Works to schedule bus to mainland for thorough inspection as needed. This may require driver to deliver and pick up bus to garage.

FACILITIES:       

·      Keep school entrances and exits clear of snow and other hazards and obstructions as needed.

·      Coordinate with cook, custodian, Superintendent and other CIS staff to:      

·      Help with facilities management and maintenance at CIS as needed

·      Remove trash from CIS and take to transfer station

·      Transport school and classroom supplies and equipment to and from CIS

·      Coordinate with cook to get food and supplies to CIS from mainland vendors by:   

·      Picking up groceries and other supplies at CTC & CBL landings

·      Transporting groceries and supplies to CIS

·      Occasionally putting groceries away in CIS kitchen

·      Have a strong understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in order to provide the background for specific, developmentally appropriate activities

·      Meets the nutritional challenges of students and staff on a daily basis with competence and personal attention.

·      Prepares healthy well balanced lunches for students grades K-5.

·      Provides healthy morning snacks for students grades K-5.

·      Coordinates with administration payments & billing for school lunches and snacks.

·      Tracks inventory of food stocks and provides a detailed account of what is needed.

·      Purchases groceries & supplies within a monthly budget.

·      Plans monthly menu sheet to be distributed to students by the 1st of every month.

·      Keeps kitchen clean and up to all state mandated codes.

·      Participates in CIS composting and school garden projects.

·      Participates in developmental training to enhance knowledge of current issues relating to such things as eating disorders, good nutrition to enhance students ability to achieve academically, etc.

·      Follows all cleaning procedures based on the Maine School Facilities Maintenance Plan.

·      Supports all staff efforts in maintaining a clean and healthy environment to enhance student achievement.

·      Participates in developmental training to expand knowledge of current issues such as environmentally friendly cleaning products, energy efficient practices, etc.

·      Evaluate need and achievement relative to ability of the student who has been referred.

·      Communicate with General Ed. Staff, regarding student's needs

·      Prescribe a program for each student.

·      Knowledge of sensory integration, multi model methods, specific skills instruction (Reading, Writing, Math)

·      Experience in strategies which support increased achievement relative to State standard assessments

·      Deliver instruction to each student who has an IEP for instruction.

·      Attend PET meetings

·      Assess achievement of each of the students according to the IEP instructions.

·      Adjust instruction as needed after assessment if necessary

·      Modify curriculum if needed or appropriate

·      Communicate with parents.

·      Provide behavioral supports to the students.

·      Consult with teachers and provide support in inclusive setting.

·      Supervise Level three Ed. Techs.
