Katherine Recommends

I recommend The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer.

This is a book for people who like science fiction and prefer it not to have aliens and UFOs and other things that have become really predictable in this genre.

I suggest you read it because even if you don't like science fiction, this book stands out because the technology in this book (like human cloning) is probably going to exist someday.

A part of the book that shows this is the opening chapter. It discusses how the clones developed and what was done to them after they were born.

I think the reason the author wrote this book was to make a statement that human cloning should be banned. There are multiple passages that tell about clones being mistreated and it's possible that the author is trying to say that this will happen if people are cloned.

One interesting passage from this book that demonstrates the author's style of writing: "Worst of all was the terrible energy that flowed through it. It thrashed under the restraining straps as though there were snakes under its skin."

On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being among the best books I've ever read), I give this book a 5. It's now one of my al-time favorites.

Three words that best describe the book are intriguing, unpredictable, and educational.
