Marion Read, daughter of Robin Read and granddaughter of the late Nancy Cooke Tucker of Chapel Hill, NC and Chebeague, graduated recently from Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., also known as Andover. At Andover, Marion was president of the Andover Women's Forum, recipient of the Lorant Fellowship for summer study and the Scoville Memorial History Prize, a National Merit commended scholar, and for her academic achievement was elected to the Cum Laude Society. The Lorant Fellowship is awarded to the member of the junior class who "demonstrates the greatest desire to succeed" and shows the most enthusiasm for learning. The fellowship allowed Marion to travel to Africa and volunteer in a rural health clinic in Kenya.

At the graduation ceremonies, Marion received special recognition for her work and scholarship in the areas of biology, history and social science, art, and theater.

Marion will attend Georgetown University.
