CUMBERLAND - Barbara Ross Graves, 83, of John Small Road on
Chebeague Island died unexpectedly Sunday at her home.
She was born on Chebeague Island, a daughter of Royal C. and
Winifred Bennett
Ross, attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High
School in
1938. She also graduated from Westbrook Junior College in 1940.
In 1941, she married Richard S. Graves Jr. and they lived in
Gorham for nearly
35 years.
Mrs. Graves was the bookkeeper for the family business of Graves
Tractor Co.
After retiring in 1979, she and her husband returned to live at
Chebeague Island.
She enjoyed canning vegetables, working in her flower garden,
boating and most
especially, spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband died in April 1995 and a son, Stephen B. Graves,
died in March
1999.
Surviving are a son, Richard S. Graves III of Hebron; a sister,
Mary Newcomb
of Gorham; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Visiting hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lindquist Funeral
Home, 1
Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral service will be held at 1:30
p.m. Friday at
the funeral home withthe Rev. Robert Leon officiating. Private
burial will be in
Chebeague Island Cemetery in May.
