CUMBERLAND - David Lawrence Bowman, 81, of Chebeague Island died
Thursday at a Freeport nursing home after a long illness.
He was born in Boston, a son of Bion and Norma Saunders Bowman, and
graduated from Brighton High School in Boston and attended the University of
New Hampshire.
Mr. Bowman served as a chief pharmacist mate in the Navy during World War II.
He worked in sales for Allied Pharmaceutical Co. for several years, and was later
New England sales manager for Thatcher Plastic Co. of Dart Industries. After
more than 20 years, he retired in the mid-1970s.
Mr. Bowman was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading and spending time at the
Chebeague Island Library.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Alice Ross Bowman of Chebeague Island; and
three sons, Lee of Chebeague Island, Peter of Bedford, N.H., and Bruce of
Cumberland; a stepson, Stewart Townsend of South Portland; two sisters,
Barbara Bowman of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Brenda Turner of Philadelphia, and
six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Chebeague Island United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Dion officiating. Burial will follow at the
Chebeague Island Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home,
Yarmouth.
