Walter V. Knight, 76

CUMBERLAND - Walter V. Knight (Wally), 76, fittingly passed away on Veteran's Day, in his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.

He was born in Portland, a son of Clifford J. and Alice M. (Burnham) Knight, Mr. Knight graduated from Deering High School and attended Gray's Business College. He flew in the U.S. Navy from the Princeton Aircraft Carrier during World War II. After the war, he worked with his father in the retail oil business. He later took over Knight Oil Co., and ran it for several years. Wally eventually sold the business to Harris Oil Co., and became sales manager for 18 years, retiring in the late 1980's.

Wally is survived by a daughter, Leslie K. Mullin of Cumberland, and his daughter, Rebecca B. Walker and her husband, David of Dover-Foxcroft; four grandchildren, Kate and Sean Mullin, Christopher, and Jennie Walker; a sister, Carolyn K.; and a brother - in - law, Charles Marsters of Westbrook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Knight was a past member of the Portland Club, Woodfords Club, Falmouth Lions Club, Maine Ski Council, Maine Ski Instructors Association, National Ski Patrol and Great Chebeague Island Golf Club. Mr. Knight spent much time at his camp in the Rangeley area. He enjoyed fly fishing, snowmobiling, down-hill skiing, duck hunting and watching our wildlife.

There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held at the Falmouth Congregational Church in Falmouth, on Sunday, Dec. 1, 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wally's memory may be made to: VNA Home Health, 50 Foden Rd., South Portland, Maine 04106. Walter V. Knight
