Douglas Frederick Symonds 69

AMESBURY, MA – Douglas (Doug) F. Symonds passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2011 after a long illness at the Maplewood Care and Rehab Center, Amesbury.

He was born December 22, 1941 in Waltham, MA.  Son of Frederick D. and Eileen M. (Southern) Symonds.He was a graduate of Watertown High School class of 1960 and Bryant and Stratton Business School, Boston, MA.

Douglas was known for his outgoing personality and friendliness and always had a smile no matter what life dealt.His interests were golfing, fishing and playing cards with his friends and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister Marilyn Hall.  He is survived by his sister Barbara Hamilton and her husband Rodney of Chebeague Island, Maine, two daughters Dawn Marie Assad and Kimberly Symonds, two sons Michael Symonds and Brian Symonds and his wife Katie, two grandchildren Jeremy Mscisz and Briana Symonds, several nieces and nephews and a great nephew.

Douglas owned and operated a neighborhood store in Marblehead for a few years known as“The Little Store”.  He also worked for the Eaton Corporation for twenty years where he held several positions and later retired.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maplewood Care and Rehabilitation Center and his dearest friends William and Becky Butler for all their love, kindness and caring for Doug.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 5, 11:00 am atThe Jutras Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, MA.  An interment service will be held in the spring in Chebeague Island Cemetery, Chebeague Island, Maine.
