Richard Arthur Sweet, 73

DickNORTH YARMOUTH - Richard Arthur Sweet, 73, passed away May 25, 2017, in Boston, Mass., due to medical complications.

Richard was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Lewiston, to parents Samuel Alton Sweet and Dorothy Irene (Yeadon).

He attended schools in Minot and Auburn. He graduated from the University of Maine Orono in 1966 with a degree in geology.

His varied career included mining exploration in Maine, Idaho, Oklahoma, and Arizona. In 1974, Richard started Sweet Associates, a geology consulting company.

He served on the state board of site evaluators, and was known as a legend in his field. He was described as an entrepreneur, inventor, optimist, risk-taker, teacher, and problem-solver in business.

He will be remembered by all for his wisdom, integrity, faith, sense of humor, love for music, and love for his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Nina Sweet, of North Yarmouth; his son, Lincoln Sweet, and wife Kristy, of Spring Hill, Tenn.; his daughter, Kathryn Munger, and husband Brandon, along with their children, Ethan and Eli, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; as well as a large, extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Dorothy Sweet; his sister, Nancy Street; and his brother, David Sweet.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, at White Pine Community Church in North Yarmouth. Reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
