SCARBOROUGH - Nancy Leith (Patterson) Sharp, 91, of Scarborough and Chebeague Island passed peacefully on January 2nd, 2019 at Piper Shores in Scarborough. For 66 years she was the wife of Willoughby Sharp.
She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 16, 1927. She was the daughter of the late George Warren and Alexandra(Leith) Patterson. As a child of a Navy Captain she lived in such places as Hawaii, Panama, Coronado, CA and New London, CT. Nancy graduated from the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA and Wellesley College, class of 1948.
After college she taught for several years at Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, MA before marrying and raising her family in New Jersey.
She was a devoted wife, mother, volunteer and homemaker. She was active as a volunteer in the Junior League, Child Services Association of Newark, NJ, the Park House guides in Philadelphia, PA and various church and school organizations.
She loved her special time and friends on Chebeague Island and was involved with the Historical Society and the Public Library. She was a beautiful swimmer and loved her daily swims.
Nancy is survived by her sons: Bill and his wife, Barbara of Front Royal, VA; Alec and his wife, Karen, of Charlotte, NC; Andrew and his wife, Jen, of McLean, VA; and her daughter, Pam and her husband, George, of Framingham, MA and Portland. She is also survived by her brother, George Warren Patterson and his wife, Fran, of Atlantic Beach, FL. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister Susan Carey (Patterson) Miller.
