Robert R. Ross, Sr., 67
 

Portland - Robert "Bob" R. Ross, Sr., 67, of Portland, Maine died Saturday, June 7th, 2008, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine after a battle with lung cancer.

     Bob was born on April 21st, 1941, on Chebeague Island, the son of George and Estella (Hamilton) Ross. He grew up on Chebeague Island until he was 17 years old. Then, he moved to Portland, Maine. Through his life he had traveled to Nevada, California, Oregon, Texas and Massachusetts but always came home to Maine. He resided in Portland, Maine for 35 years. He was a devoted, friendly and hard working baker for Tony's Donut Shop for 28 years until he retired.

     Bob brightened many people's lives. This beloved man was thoughtful, loving, caring and enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved his time with his family and friends. He always enjoyed his visits back to Chebeague Island. He shared many happy stories of his childhood on the island.

     He is predeceased by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers. Survivors include his son Robert Rodney Ross, Jr., grandson, Ryan Robert Ross, dedicated and loving girlfriend, Laura Pellegrino, four sisters, Christine Haynes of South Portland, Helen Wolf of Scarborough, Phyliss Bryant of South Dakota, Shirley Palmer of Oklahoma, two brothers, Raymond Ross of Texas and Alfred Ross of Alaska; along with step children, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

     Family and friends will come together to celebrate the life of this wonderful and kind hearted man on Monday, June 16th, 2008 @ 11:30 A.M. for a graveside service at the Chebeague Island Cemetery. The ferry leaves from Cousins Island at 10:15A.M. The parking lot for the ferry is on Route 1 in Cumberland. (You need to be at the parking lot by 9:45am for directions click here)
