Parker Childs Lindberg

Parker Childs Lindberg, 74, a resident of Greenwich since 1992, died on Jan. 7, 2009 at The Nathaniel Witherell in Greenwich. The cause of death was respiratory failure due to complications from Lewy Body Disease.

Born in Arlington, Mass., on Aug. 30, 1934, Lindberg spent four years in the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diving officer, after graduating from The College of Business Administration at Boston University. During his college years he was an avid oarsman and member of the BU crew team.

He began his business career in 1966 as head of the Chamber of Commerce for Southbridge, Sturbridge and Charlton, Mass. He then spent 11 years at Sperry and Hutch-inson, then the nation's largest trading stamp company, where he served the last five as government relations director.

In 1984, Lindberg moved to Scarsdale, N.Y. to become president of the Promotion Marketing Association of America. Before retirement in 2001, he owned and operated Parker Services, Inc. in Greenwich and Scarsdale.

Lindberg devoted time to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Riverside and his former parish, St. James The Less in Scarsdale. Boating, gardening, light-hearted humor, and trips to Maine and Gloucester with his family were his favorite pastimes.

Parker is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his brother, Charles Lindberg of Gloucester, Mass.; his children, Kirsten Sorin, Parker Lindberg and Jason Lindberg; his stepchildren, John Doyle and Beth Barsanti; and five grandchildren. Besides his parents, Lindberg was predeceased by two brothers, Horace and Robert Lindberg.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 15 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Riverside. Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home of Greenwich handled arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Greenwich Adult Day Care.
