CHEBEAGUE ISLAND -- Martha Evans McLean, of Chebeague Island and Naples, Fla., died peacefully in Naples after living a full and remarkable life for 93 and and a half years.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on May 29, 1917, Martha was the daughter of Colonel Benjamin and Minie Guyler Evans. She attended the National School of Design in Washington, D.C., and she and her husband of 59 years, 'Sandy' McLean, owned and operated Martha McLean Specialty Shop on Congress Street in Portland for 18 years.

Martha was passionate about family, friends, her faith, work, and spending summers on Chebeague Island. She was a loving and attentive grandmother and great-grandmother who had the ability to make those around her feel special. She adored fashion and design, and will be remembered for both her kindness and exquisite sense of style.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Faith Butler and Edith Evans, and brother, General Ben Evans Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. James J. (Martha) Kelley III of Cape Elizabeth, and Punta Gorda, Fla., and Mrs. James G. (Alexandra) Bouchles of Auburn and Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of the life of Martha McLean will be held Monday August 8th at 11:30 am at the Chebeague UM Church. Reception to follow in the Parish House.

The family asks that any memorial donations be made to Vitas Hospice Care of Naples, Fla., or the Chebeague Island Methodist Church.
