Maud K. Conner, 83 PORTLAND -- Maud K. Conner, 83, of Portland, died on July 6, 2009, at The Cedars. She was born on Aug. 16, 1925, in West Newton, Mass., the daughter of Patrick and Anna Theresa (LeProhon) Quinn, and attended St. Bernard's School in W. Newton, Mass., graduating in 1943. Maud attended Emmanuel College, and furthered her education at Burbank Hospital Nursing School in Fitchburg, Mass. In December of 1947, Maud married Samuel H. Conner in New Jersey. He predeceased her in 1981.

Maud worked for many years at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., as a secretary, retiring in 1989. She was a loyal supporter of the establishment of the Town of Long Island, and a proponent of the Recycling Committee. Maud was Sacristan at Our Lady of the Star Sea Church on Long Island for years, opening and cleaning the church in the spring, and cleaning and closing the church in the late fall. She also organized fundraisers and crews to paint the church at least twice. Maud loved to garden, and to paint her house. She was an active volunteer for Mercy Hospital and Osteopathic Hospital of Maine, was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox (never missing a game on TV, radio, or re-runs), and was very proud of becoming a great-grandmother.

Besides her husband, Maud was predeceased by her sister, Mary Justice, in 2008. She is survived by her children, Sr. Patricia Conner, SND of Woburn, Mass., Shirley Conner of Long Island, Kevin Conner of California, and Kathleen Floyd and her husband Michael of Long Island; grandchildren, Christie Muesse and her husband Michael of Steep Falls, and Melanie Floyd and Valerie Floyd, both of Long Island; and the latest addition to her family, her great-grandson, Conner Floyd Muesse.

Visiting hours will be 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State St., Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, July 10, at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress St., Portland.
