SOUTH BURLINGTON / SHELBURNE, VT. - Mrs. Lucy Griswold Hamilton, 78, died early Friday morning, April 18, 2003 in the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.
A native of the Wethersfield, Conn. area, Mrs. Hamilton has been a resident of Shelburne, Vt. since 1971, and more recently made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Rick Slade on Oak Creek Drive in South Burlington. She has been a member of the Shelburne United Methodist Church, Shelburne Gardening Club, Klifa Club of Burlington and the Burlington Chapter of the National PEO. A devoted and loving grandmother, she will also be remembered for her love of gardening and crafts.
She was born in Hartford, Conn., July 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Harry Newton and Edith (Hubby) Griswold. Following her marriage to Gordon Willis Hamilton on March 27, 1942, she moved to Yarmouth, and resided there until moving to Shelburne, Vt. in 1971. They also summered many years on Chebeague Island.
Her husband Gordon, predeceased her on May 31, 1998. Mrs. Hamilton leaves two daughters and their husbands, Martha and Jeff Champagne of Hinesburg, and Heidi and Rick Slade of South Burlington; two brothers, James 'Jesse' Griswold and Newton Griswold and his wife, Marcia all of Wethersfield, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Brownsword of Waterford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ramona Hamilton Detjens of Yarmouth; three grandchildren, Tyler, Eliza and Jackson Slade of South Burlington as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vt., Tuesday, April 22, 2003,4-7 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at 3 p.m. from the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield, Conn. with the Rev. Dr. Jey Deifell officiating Interment will follow in the family lot in the Wethersfield Village Cemetery.
