Lillian (LeBlanc) Gomez

June 15, 1912 - June 18, 2012
LONG ISLAND, CASCO BAY -- Lillian was born in 1912 in Sheridan, the first born of ten children to William and Annie LeBlanc. Her parents sent her to boarding school at the Notre Dame de la Sargesse Convent, 50 miles away from home, from the age of five until the age of 10. After the age of 10, her education was completed in the Town of Sheridan.

Though her first language was French, it was at the convent that she learned English. She also became an accomplished pianist while at the convent and exhibited her outstanding talent throughout her entire life, up to the time of her passing at the Island Commons, a non-profit assisted living facility on Chebeague Island.

Lillian married Robert (Bob) Gomez of Long Island in 1937 where they raised five children; Ann, Peter, Roberta, Carmen and William. As part of the unique island community, her musical talent was called upon by the Catholic Church, Methodist Church, all school events, plays, weddings and the VFW functions of which she was a member. From the time of her retirement through her eighties, she volunteered by giving piano lessons after school each day to any island child who wished to learn.
Widowed in 1959, she is survived by her children and their spouses; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at a later date on Long Island.

It is because of the Island Common's staff and the unending devotion of Ginny Ballard, PAC, to all the residents of the facility, that the quality of her last few years was maintained up to her peaceful passing at the age of 100. A special appreciation is also extended to the Hospice of Southern Maine for their wonderful care. Her family is ever grateful, as well, to those of Long Island, who were watchful of her throughout her senior years.
