Colleen R. Jones, 75


PORTLAND -- Colleen R. Jones, 75, of South Portland, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. Colleen was born in Portland on Feb. 16, 1936, a daughter of James and Nettie (Doughty) Rich. She grew up on Chebeague Island, where she learned to appreciate the Maine coast and develop a love of animals.

As a military wife, she traveled to many destinations with her husband and loved being a homemaker raising her two children, Minnie and Herbert.
Colleen never possessed a drivers' license but truly enjoyed going for car rides with members of her family.

Colleen's love for animals shone through as she enjoyed feeding the ducks in the fall at Millcreek Pond. Although she lived her later years in South Portland, her heart always remained on and with the people of Chebeague. The island was home to her.

Survivors include her daughter, Minnie and her husband Waldenar, son, Herbert Jones; granddaughters, Maria and Morgan Jones; siblings, Louise Todd, Minnie McNeil, Herbert Rich; and numerous devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Rich.

Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service, with Pastor Linda Brewster officiating, will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012 with a brief period of visitation prior at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the spring on Chebeague Island.
