dougDouglas C. Dyer, 86, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Mercy Hospital, in Portland. 

He was born in South Portland on June 5, 1932, to the late Manley and Fannie (Gott) Dyer.

Doug was raised on Chebeague Island and attended school there. He was drafted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War, where he received two battle medals and a Purple Heart. He worked as a commercial fisherman and lobsterman for most of his life, being a captain of his own boat, the "Davey Crockett".

On June 5, 1959, Doug married the love of his life, Marjorie Turner of Portland, and built a home and settled on Cousins Island. Together they shared a loving marriage of over 59 years. They enjoyed boating, taking a ride around the bay, and creating countless memories. 

Doug is survived by his wife.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Richard Dyer.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home. A committal will be held in the spring on Cousins Island. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, Maine, 04096. 846-4011.
