Frances Louise Calder

CUMBERLAND - Frances Louise Calder, 83, of Cumberland, passed away at her home on July 2, 2017, with her family by her side.

She was born in South Portland, on June 21, 1934, the daughter of Gerald and Bertha (Ross) Osgood. She graduated from Deering High School in the Class of 1952.

She married John Calder on April 18, 1970, and together they raised their child Laura. John passed away on Aug. 10, 1990.

Frances joined the United States Marines and served during the Korean conflict and on reserve status until 1962. She worked many years at Engelhard Industries in Attleboro, Mass., in the research and development division of the production control department.

She was a very active member of Chebeague Island Grange #576, serving as past Master and past Lecturer. She was the leader of the Girl Scouts on Chebeague Island, reorganizing it. Frances served as superintendent of Sunday School and also was a member of Chebeague United Methodist Church, the Attleboro, Mass., American Legion Post 20, and the proud owner and operator of Veterans Taxi on Chebeague Island for many years.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Laura J., and her husband David Usher; she was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Louis F. Osgood.
