Eileen M. Bennett

Eileen "Pee-Wee" Bennett, 82

peeweeYARMOUTH - Eileen Mae Bennett, 82, passed peacefully at Hawthorne House in Freeport, on Saturday June 13, 2015 after a period of declining health. She was born in Portland on Dec. 6, 1932, a daughter of Dorothy (Duggan) and Thomas Wallace. She graduated from South Portland High School and soon after began work at Woolworth's and then Porteous. Much later she retired from LL Bean after 15 years of customer service.

Eileen met and married the love of her life, Frank "Bud" Bennett in 1956 and together they would have three children. When she was 33 she developed a life changing paralysis that affected her for the rest of her life. Eileen was a devoted stay at home Mom and doted on her family. She and Frank had a mutual regard and respect for each other that inspired selflessness for each other. When Bud died in 2001 she met the challenge of her heartache; became appropriately independent and maintained her concern for others, first and foremost.

Early in life Eileen enjoyed bowling and swimming and later on this gave way to going to the "kids" hockey games, watching live figure skating and time well spent at the family camp "Trail's End" in Beddington. Camp was a special place and many friends were made there. She was a member of the Chebeague Island Methodist Church. Eileen will be remembered for her fairness; her unfailing concern for others first; her acceptance of others and being a second mother to Ernie.

Eileen will be greatly missed and is survived by her son Brenton Bennett of Yarmouth and his girlfriend Allison White of Milan, N.H., her daughter Brenda Colello and her husband Ernie of Yarmouth; her four grandchildren, Josh Colello and his fiancée Crystal LaFrance, Cody Colello, Kyle Bennett and Brittany Farrington, Nicholas Bennett; her two great-grandchildren, Owen Colello and Callie Bennett; her three brothers: Ernest F. Smith, Jr., Kenneth E. Smith, and Paul D. Smith. She was predeceased by her daughter Minnie Louise Bennett; her brother Walter Wallace and her sister Sharon-Ann Smith Bosquette.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday June 17, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth with a funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday June 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Chebeague Island Cemetery on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
