Offering Free Training Workshops for Community Volunteers Involved in Community Revitalization and Health Promotion Projects

We all know how valuable well trained volunteers can be to the success of an organization. Now imagine how wonderful it would be to have a free leadership development resource to turn to for your organization's volunteers.

That's what the Encore Leadership Corps (ENCorps) has to offer you.

ENCorps is a statewide program designed to train Mainers who are aged 50 and over in leadership skills that will benefit programs, towns, and municipalities involved in community revitalization and development and health promotion activities. After attending a no-cost 2 day training summit on April 12-13, 2010 at beautiful Point Lookout in Northport, Maine (includes meals and lodging if needed!) volunteers will leave armed with new resources, skills, and energy that will benefit the organizations and local communities they serve.

The 2 day training summit will include expert presentations and practical workshops for community volunteers on a variety of topics including:

* Principles of community revitalization and development

* Smart growth strategies and techniques

* Effecting change at the local level

* How to craft your personal vision

* Approaches to volunteer recruitment: A special session for volunteers who want to get others on-board

* Getting to know your town: Asset mapping techniques

* Working with boards and committees

* Using web-based resources

* Understanding the legislative process and public policy development

* Carrying out high impact community outreach

* Public speaking and working with the media

and much more!

After the 2 day retreat, ENCorps will continue to provide valuable resources and training and networking opportunities for your volunteers.

This is a unique and exciting training opportunity available at no cost to your existing volunteers. ENCorps can also serve as a convenient referral source for new volunteers for your community organization, agency, town, or municipality.

ENCorps is made possible through a partnership between the University of Maine Center on Aging and the Maine Community Foundation. Initial support has been made available through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Atlantic Philanthropies.

Application forms and additional information describing ENCorps for volunteers themselves and for agency personnel are available on our website at www.encoreleaders.org <http://www.encoreleaders.org/> .
