Hiking Trails:

Mt. Katahdin is a mile high and the highest mountain in Maine. Mt. Katahdin has a Knife Edge Trail which is about a mile long and is really steep. Mt. Kathdin has a day hiking trail.

This is an easy hiking trail. It goes through mixed forest in a beautiful setting. The beginning of the trail is rough and wet and then it gets dry.


Scenic Waterfalls:

Baxter State hiking trail goes to the falls. It is a series of powerful cascading falls. The trail is high above the falls.

The falls have a 5 yard drop over ledge into a small pool. There is a trail to the top of the fall.


Parks and Recreation Areas:

The Allagash River is a place to go canoeing, swimming and fishing. It is famous for flatwater - whitewater canoe trips. There is pretty wilderness in "Gods Country" It's named like that because

 

Baxter State Park is a big and pretty wilderness area in Northern Maine. The most famous place in the park is Mr. Katahdin which is a mile high.


Unique Natural Areas:

This is a hiking trail along the top of Mt. Katahdin. The Knife Edge was its name because the sides drop down steeply. In some places the trail is only 3 feet wide. the trail is one mile long.

These caves are so cold that they have ice in them all year long. The trail leads from a nearby campsite.


Canoe Trips:

This river trip is 10 miles long. It has a good current and class I to III rapids.

There are several canoe trips, but only in the Spring.


Skiing:

Big Squaw has a vertical drop of 1750 feet It has 8 intermediate trails, 5 novice trails and 5 expert trails. It has only two chairlifts.

Moosehead has 15 kilometers of trails. The Center has backcountry trails, a ski school, equipment rentals and a snack bar or a restaurant.
