The K-3 class of Mrs. Williams is studying birds and each child has chosen a bird to study and draw. The following is the results of their research.

(Where does your bird live?) In summer lives in northern part of United States and in Canada and in winter it lives southern United States

(What kind of nest does it build?) large and bulky sticks

(Where does your bird usually nest?) in trees, telegraph poles, chimneys, sometimes on ground

(Some interesting facts about my bird:) 4 - 6 foot wing span, they carry fish straight ahead

 

DENIS

Red-winged Blackbird

(Where does your bird live?) summers in northern United States and Canada, winters in southern United States

(What does your bird eat?) seeds, grains, insects, insect larvae, spiders, snails, berries, fruit

(What kind of nest does it build?) grass and rushes

(Where does your bird usually nest?) marshes bushes and reeds

(Some interesting facts about my bird:) The male comes first and after that the females comes.

(What does your bird eat?) sunflower seeds, tree seeds, weeds, wild fruits and insects.

(What kind of nest does it build?) moss, hair, feathers and grass lined with plant down

(Where does your bird usually nest?) rotted stumps or limbs or deserted woodpecker holes

Some interesting facts about my bird:) They can be tamed to eat out of your hand. They can be acrobatic and hang upside down. Usually a pair leads the flock.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

(Where does your bird live?) My bird lives in a nest. In the winter they go to Florida

(What does your bird eat?) My bird eats nectar and tiny insects. Sometimes they drink sugar water.

(What kind of nest does it build?) The nest is shaped like a triangle, no bigger than two inches.

(Where does your bird usually nest?) in long grass, in a tree, in the Northeast

(Some interesting facts about my bird:) My bird can flap it's wings 80 times a scond. It has a nettle shaped bill. A female has a white throat. It can fly backwards. It hums from it's wings. They have a hollow tongue and they use it for a straw. They have different shapes of bills.

(What kind of nest does it build?) usually no nest - sometimes rubbish or debris

(Where does your bird usually nest?)barns, belfries and hollow trees

(Some interesting facts about my bird:) they hunt at night - they have good hearing and they can almost turn their heads around in a circle.

(What kind of nest does it build?) A loose cup-shaped nest. The nest materials of grass, hair.
