226 South Road

226 South Road was built in about 1900.  After World War II Bill and Ida Stilphin raised their family there and it was subsequently owned by Priscilla Ross and Barbara Ross Caldwell.  In 1993 it was bought by Erik and Angela Weagle who lived in it with their family until Angela’s untimely illness.

The house is located in the Center, very close to the Store and the Library/Clinic and Hall.  But it is given a feeling of rural privacy by being set into the bluff that runs down from South Road to Flag Avenue.  Access is from South Road by means of a deeded driveway and parking right of way up to the back of the house.  The lot is small but nicely landscaped.  Like most Chebeague houses, it has its own well and septic system on the property.

Erik and Angela enlarged and renovated the house.  It was brought up to modern standards for insulation, plumbing, wiring, heating and water treatment.  They added a master bedroom to the second floor so that the house now has three bedrooms, and built decks facing south-east off the master bedroom upstairs and the living room downstairs.  The kitchen was completely refurbished.  There is a full bath upstairs and a bathroom with shower on the first floor.
