CHEBEAGUE TOWN OFFICE UPDATE

Week of September 24, 2007

 

REMINDER: Town Office Closed on Monday, September 24, 2007: Both of our clerks are away all day at separate training classes mandated by the state.

 

Selectman Set October 9, 2007 Deadline for Interest In Serving on Cemetery, Comprehensive Plan or Finance Committees: A document is available at the town office and is posted in the usual places to provide some sort of expectations with respect to serving on one of these committees.

 

Board of Adjustments & Appeals Change Schedule in Monthly Meeting: Please note that the Board has notified us that from now on it will conduct its' monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of every month.

 

Unregistered Moorings to be Identified: The Harbormaster will be checking that all moorings are properly registered and marked with the mooring number painted in 3 inch numerals on top. You may see a bright colored sticker on the unmarked mooring. A hand out of the mooring regulation is available at the town office. If your mooring is unregistered please go to the Town of Cumberland offices until December 31. Thereafter, you will be able to register your mooring at the Chebeague town office.

 

Island Fellow Joins Town Staff: We welcome aboard Thea Youngs, the town's newest Island Fellow who arrived on island this past week-end. Thea is a recent graduate of Mount Holyoke College. Initially, she will be assisting the town administrator on planning and GIS related projects, as well as assisting the planning board and comprehensive plan committees.

 

Coastal Waters to be a Focal Point for Fisherman Issues and Concerns: At a recent meeting the Board of Selectman discussed where and how Chebeague fisherman would bring the Board's attention to issues of particular concern to the local fishing fleet. Selectman Leon Hamilton encouraged this constituency to organize themselves in some way that would ensure their issues are heard. Jeff Putnam, Chair of Coastal Waters told the Board he wants fisherman to know that his committee stands ready to hear any matter they would like to discuss at the commission's regular meeting.
