CHEBEAGUE TOWN OFFICE UPDATE

Good Day!

From time to time we at the Town Office will be posting information on the Chebeague Web Site, as well as at the usual locations (boat, library, store and Chandler's Wharf). We do this in the spirit of trying our best to keep all our townsfolk updated on those items that will help you be appropriately informed. To that end, we want to share with you the following tidbits:

SHELLFISH AND MOORING LICENSES: Under a previous arrangement between the Transition Committee and the Town of Cumberland it was agreed that these licenses will be issued by the Town of Cumberland until 12-31-07.

However, with respect to shellfish licenses we learned just yesterday that the Town of Cumberland has already issued all 250 annual shellfish licenses by the State of Maine for this purpose. However, we have made arrangements to issue 10 monthly licenses from Chebeague's Town Hall. The cost is $10.00 for residents only. They will be provided on a first come first serve basis. These can be only issued to residents who pay real estate taxes.

VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS: At this time and despite our best efforts we do not have the ability to perform any State of Maine vehicle registrations. However, we believe we will be in a position to do so by Wednesday, July 11, 2007. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We have notified our local law enforcement officer of this delay.

FISHING/HUNTING LICENSES: We have yet to receive the necessary stickers from Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to proceed with these licenses. We are still trying very hard to obtain them from the state. We will notify you when these have come in! Look for postings accordingly.

BOAT LICENSES: We have made arrangements with the Town of North Yarmouth to process your boat licenses. You must come first to the Town office to pay your excise taxes. We will give you a receipt acknowledging the payment. Upon showing said receipt at North Yarmouth and paying an agent and registration fee accordingly. Again this was not planned this way but the state policy precludes us from handling boat licenses until our staff is trained.

PLANNING BOARD/ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS OPPORTUNITIES: Among one of the first Town committees the Board of Selectman will be establishing is the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. These Boards shall consist of seven (7) members to be appointed by the Board of Selectman. The members will serve without compensation. For further information about this Board please feel free to drop by the office to obtain a copy of these respective ordinances.

Anyone interested in serving on the Board should send a letter care of the Board of Selectman expressing their interest and qualifications. The mailing address is Town of Chebeague Island, P.O. Box 22, 192 North Road, Chebeague Island, Maine 04017.
